Eating at Ritz Half Moon Bay or local restaurant?

We are spending 2 nights at the Ritz Half Moon Bay resort with two kids in their early twenties. We’ve booked dinner at Pasta Moon for one night and I’m wondering if it’s worth eating at the resort’s restaurant the other night. We will be eating breakfast there so I don’t want to eat every meal there but I also don’t want to miss out on a great meal if the restaurant is really excellent. If there are better alternatives, I would love a suggestion.

The Ritz-Carlton Half Moon Bay has a reputation for high-quality dining, with its signature restaurant, Navio, offering a fine dining experience focused on fresh seafood and coastal California cuisine. The setting is beautiful, with ocean views and a luxurious atmosphere, making it ideal for a special evening, especially if you want a more relaxed, elegant dinner after a day of exploring the area.

That said, because you’ll already have breakfast at the resort and are planning dinner at Pasta Moon, you might consider whether you want to experience another resort meal or explore local options. Local dining in Half Moon Bay can offer a slightly more casual, authentic experience while still delivering excellent food.

Some alternative local restaurants to consider:

  • Sam’s Chowder House – Known for its seafood, especially the lobster rolls and clam chowder, with casual coastal vibes and ocean views.
  • Half Moon Bay Brewing Company – Offers a mix of American cuisine and craft beers, good for a more laid-back, lively atmosphere.
  • Moss Beach Distillery – Historic spot with seafood and steak, plus stunning views of the coastline and often seals on the rocks below.
  • Barbara’s Fishtrap – Smaller, local seafood spot, perfect for a casual but very fresh and satisfying dinner.

If you prioritize convenience and a special evening with the full resort experience, Navio at the Ritz is a solid choice. If you’re looking to mix things up, enjoy local flavor, and have a more casual evening with younger adults, one of the local seafood restaurants could be more memorable and fun. Either way, booking ahead is recommended, as weekends can be busy.
