Choosing a Hotel

Hi, I am looking at a few hotel options and would like some feedback about them. It will be my husband, baby and myself.

- Kona Kai (Shelter island)

- Bahía Resort Hotel (Mission)

- Mission Bay Resort

- Paradise Point Resort (Mission)

- hotel la jolla

- pacific terrace hotel

If you have an area you would highly recommend that would be helpful for us picking a hotel

If you have another hotel that you recommend in the <$400 /night range, please let us know!

We will be staying Fri-Mon of Easter weekend

For a family trip to San Diego with a baby, choosing a hotel that is both comfortable and convenient is key. Since you’re staying over Easter weekend, consider both location and family-friendly amenities when deciding.

Hotel options you listed:

  • Kona Kai (Shelter Island): This is a charming, quieter resort on Shelter Island with a marina feel. It’s family-friendly, has spacious rooms, and easy access to water views. However, it’s a bit away from main attractions, so a car is necessary.
  • Bahía Resort Hotel (Mission Bay): Excellent for families with a baby. Located right on Mission Bay with a calm, sheltered water area, outdoor pool, and walking paths. Convenient for SeaWorld and casual dining.
  • Mission Bay Resort: Also located on Mission Bay, offering direct bay access and family amenities. It’s slightly smaller than Bahía but similarly convenient and kid-friendly.
  • Paradise Point Resort (Mission Bay): A large, island-style resort with extensive grounds, multiple pools, and family activities. Very popular for families; good for a relaxed stay with baby-friendly facilities.
  • Hotel La Jolla: Located near the coast in La Jolla, more boutique and quiet. Close to beaches and La Jolla Village shops, but less geared towards families with young children.
  • Pacific Terrace Hotel: Oceanfront in Pacific Beach with great views. Upscale boutique feel, but rooms may be smaller and not as focused on families with very young children.

Recommended areas for families:

  • Mission Bay / Shelter Island: Quiet, easy access to parks, bay, and family-friendly activities. Minimal traffic stress and good for casual walks with a stroller.
  • La Jolla: Beautiful beaches and scenery, good for walking around, but slightly further from central San Diego attractions.
  • Pacific Beach: Fun, active area with restaurants and shops, but can be busy and less serene for a baby.

Other hotel recommendations under $400/night:

  • Hilton San Diego Resort & Spa (Mission Bay): Spacious rooms, pools, and family-friendly amenities.
  • Catamaran Resort Hotel & Spa (Mission Bay): Beachy vibe, calm bay area, great for families, and includes pool and water activities.
  • Residence Inn by Marriott San Diego Mission Valley: Suite-style rooms with kitchens, very convenient for families with babies, slightly inland but offers free parking.

Overall, for a short family stay with a baby over Easter, Mission Bay or Shelter Island properties (Bahía, Paradise Point, Kona Kai) offer the best combination of calm, bay access, and family-friendly facilities. La Jolla is scenic and charming but may require more driving. Pacific Beach and oceanfront boutique hotels are nice for adults but less practical with a baby.
