Los Angeles accommodation and location help please!

Hi!

I'm looking for help with a holiday to LA this July please. I'm going to bullet point it as there are several factors for us!

1. We are looking to stay from around 21st July for 2 or 3 weeks- duration depends on cost!

2. We are a family of 4, 2 adults and 2 teens (18 and 14) both are autistic so apartment-style rooms would suit best, but we definitely need 3 separate beds.

3. We have tickets for a concert at Dodger Stadium on 27th July, this will mean late night transport back to our accommodation. This is worrying me a lot!

4. This will be our only holiday this year, so i was thinking a beach location would be best and accommodation with pool.

5. We aren't looking to see lots of sights, the main purpose is for the concert and to relax in the sun!

6. Happy to hire a car, just not sure what's best.

7. We're not rolling in money, so budget is fairly tight, we are looking at the £3-4k mark for accommodation.

Any advice and insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

For a family holiday in Los Angeles this July with your specific needs, here are some detailed considerations and recommendations:

Accommodation Location:

Since your focus is on relaxation, beach access, and proximity to Dodger Stadium for a late-night concert, you need a balance between the coast and central LA. Staying directly near the stadium would make the concert easier, but areas near the beach provide a calmer, sunny environment for your family. With a car, commuting is manageable.

  • Santa Monica: Great for beach, shopping, and restaurants. Safe, walkable, and has many apartment-style hotels or vacation rentals with pools. About 30–40 min drive to Dodger Stadium depending on traffic.
  • Venice Beach / Marina del Rey: Slightly more eclectic, great for beach walks and a relaxed vibe. Vacation rentals and small apartments available. Drive to Dodger Stadium around 35–45 min.
  • Manhattan Beach / Hermosa Beach: A bit further south, quieter than Santa Monica and Venice, with family-friendly rentals and pools. About 45–50 min drive to Dodger Stadium.
  • Near Hollywood or Silver Lake: More central for Dodger Stadium (10–15 min drive), but not on the beach. Can be a compromise if minimizing concert travel stress is priority.

Accommodation Type:

Apartment-style rentals are ideal for your family’s needs. Look for options on Airbnb, Vrbo, or family-friendly hotels with suites that include:

  • Three separate beds or bedrooms.
  • Kitchen/kitchenette for preparing meals.
  • Pool access for relaxation.

Transport Considerations:

Hiring a car is highly recommended given your beach focus and the need to travel to Dodger Stadium for a late concert. Public transport in LA is limited, especially for late-night travel. With a car, you have flexibility, can manage traffic better, and avoid relying on Uber/Lyft late at night when surge pricing applies.

Budget Considerations:

With a budget of £3–4k (~$3,600–$4,800 USD), you can find 2–3 week rental apartments near the beach, particularly if you book early and focus on Airbnb or Vrbo options rather than hotels. Some apartment hotels may offer weekly discounts.

Other Tips:

  • Book accommodation as early as possible for July, as it’s peak season.
  • Check traffic apps to plan the concert night return, or consider leaving a bit earlier to avoid heavy congestion.
  • Consider a rental with beach access or nearby bike rentals to add variety to your downtime without extra transport.
  • Ensure the apartment has air conditioning, as July can be warm, especially for your teens.

In summary, a beachside apartment in Santa Monica or Venice offers the best mix of sun, relaxation, pool, and family-friendly environment, while a car rental ensures you can attend the Dodger Stadium concert and explore the coast comfortably within your budget.
