Buckhead to Mercedes Benz Stadium

Hi,

Thinking of coming into town to see a soccer game at MB Stadium in August. Would want a cheap hotel. Don’t want to rent a car.

Thinking of staying in Buckhead and taking the Marta, is this reasonable?

The game is on Sunday. Would fly in Saturday and out Monday. Do maybe a museum on Saturday and something else Monday. Rely on rideshares and Marta.

Staying in Buckhead and taking MARTA to Mercedes-Benz Stadium is a reasonable and cost-effective option. Buckhead is a well-connected neighborhood in Atlanta, and MARTA provides a direct route to the stadium. The MARTA station in Buckhead is the "Buckhead" station on the Red Line, which will take you directly to the Five Points station. From Five Points, you can transfer to the Blue Line or simply walk (about 10 minutes) to Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The total travel time will likely be around 25-30 minutes, depending on wait times for the trains.

As for accommodations in Buckhead, you can find a variety of reasonably priced hotels, especially if you're booking in advance. Buckhead is known for its shopping, dining, and upscale hotels, but there are also budget-friendly options available. Staying here provides easy access to both MARTA and other attractions like shopping centers, restaurants, and nearby attractions, making it a great location to stay without a rental car.

For your Saturday and Monday plans, here are a few suggestions:

  • Saturday – Museum Visit: The Atlanta History Center is a fantastic option for history buffs, and it's relatively easy to reach by MARTA and bus. Alternatively, the High Museum of Art is another great option if you're interested in art and is located closer to downtown, with convenient public transit options.
  • Sunday – Soccer Game: Your main activity for Sunday will be the soccer game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. It’s a great venue for sports and entertainment, so be sure to plan ahead to get there early and enjoy the pre-game atmosphere.
  • Monday – Explore the City: Consider visiting places like Piedmont Park for a relaxed day outdoors, or take a walk around the Beltline, a popular urban trail with restaurants, shops, and art installations. You could also explore the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park for a bit of culture and history.

Rideshares are also a good option if you prefer not to rely entirely on MARTA, especially for shorter distances or if you're in a rush. Just make sure to check the traffic conditions before heading out, especially on game day, as downtown Atlanta can get busy.

In summary, staying in Buckhead and using MARTA for your travels is a great option. You’ll be able to enjoy your weekend without the need for a rental car while still experiencing the best that Atlanta has to offer!
