Murray Canyon Trail

We’re in Palm Springs and scrapped our plan to hike Murray Canyon because of the rain. Are the trails in bad shape after rain? It’s nice out today so we were considered going today.

Murray Canyon Trail in Palm Springs is a popular hike leading to the Seven Sisters waterfalls. After recent rain, the trail conditions can vary depending on how much water fell and how recently it rained.

Trail Conditions After Rain:

  • Sections of the trail may be muddy, especially in shaded areas and near the creek crossings.
  • Rocky portions can be slippery, so proper footwear with good traction is recommended.
  • Some small streams or puddles may remain, but for a day after rain, most trails dry relatively quickly in Palm Springs’ sunny, warm weather.

Tips for Hiking Today:

  • Start early to avoid soft or slippery trails that might still be wet in shaded areas.
  • Bring trekking poles if you have them for extra stability over muddy or rocky sections.
  • Wear shoes that you don’t mind getting wet or muddy, as small water crossings are common.
  • Check the creek near the waterfalls; after rain, water flow can be stronger than usual, so exercise caution near the cascades.
  • Carry water and sun protection, as the weather in Palm Springs can warm up quickly even after rain.

Overall, if the weather is nice today, it is likely safe to hike Murray Canyon Trail. The trail should be manageable with some caution, and you can still enjoy the greenery and waterfalls enhanced by recent rain. Starting in the morning and being mindful of slippery areas will help ensure a pleasant experience.
