Bob Hope's house by car

Is there a vantage point to view Bob Hope's house by car.

And could anyone please recommend a scenic drive up into the mountains from PS ?

My husband has severe mobility issues but loves exploring places by car.

Thanks

Bob Hope’s former estate in Palm Springs is privately owned, so there is no public access to the property. However, you can still view it from the street, and the neighborhood itself offers some nice scenic drives with views of mid-century modern architecture and the surrounding mountains. The house is located in the upper foothills, so a drive along the streets in that area will give you glimpses without needing to leave the car.

Recommended Vantage Points / Drives for Car Viewing:

  • El Alamo Drive / Upper Desert View Drive: These streets in the upper hills offer views of Bob Hope’s estate from the road as well as scenic panoramas of Palm Springs below.
  • North Indian Canyon Drive: A main scenic drive through Palm Springs with views of residential areas, mountain backdrops, and iconic architecture.
  • Gene Autry Trail / Sunnyslope Drive area: Quiet residential roads where you can enjoy mid-century modern homes, including some celebrity estates.

Scenic Drives into the Mountains Accessible by Car:

  • Palms to Pines Scenic Byway (CA-74): Starts in Palm Desert and climbs into the San Jacinto Mountains. Offers impressive desert-to-mountain scenery and is fully drivable by car. Plenty of pull-outs for photos and enjoying the views.
  • Mount San Jacinto via Palm Springs Aerial Tramway: While the tramway itself is the main attraction, the roads leading up to the base station at Chino Canyon provide beautiful mountain scenery if driving in the area.
  • South Palm Canyon Drive to Murray Canyon: Short, accessible drive with mountain and canyon views without challenging terrain.

Since your husband has severe mobility issues, these drives are ideal because they allow him to enjoy the scenery comfortably from the car. The Palms to Pines Scenic Byway is particularly rewarding for a longer drive, while the local upper-hill streets give the chance to glimpse Bob Hope’s house and other iconic estates.
