Restaurant Reservations
My husband and I will be staying in Longboat key in April. Do we need restaurant reservations? If so, where do people suggest?
Thanks so much!
Longboat Key is a small, upscale barrier island with a mix of casual and fine dining options. While the area is not as busy as nearby Sarasota or St. Armands Circle, April is still a popular time because of spring visitors, so it’s generally a good idea to make reservations, especially for dinner or weekend dining.
Here are some recommended restaurants where reservations are suggested:
- Mar Vista Dockside Restaurant & Pub – Casual waterfront dining with seafood and American fare. Good for lunch or dinner; reservations recommended for dinner or larger parties.
- LBK Coastal Cuisine – Upscale yet relaxed spot offering fresh seafood, steaks, and cocktails. Dinner reservations are strongly advised, particularly on weekends.
- Dry Dock Waterfront Grill – Known for fresh seafood and sunset views. Popular with both locals and visitors; a reservation ensures a window or waterside table.
Other notable options, which may be easier to get last-minute seating but reservations are still recommended during peak times:
- Blue Dolphin Café – Casual breakfast and lunch spot with classic American dishes; reservations usually not needed except for larger groups.
- The Waterfront Restaurant – Fine dining overlooking the bay. Dinner reservations recommended, especially for Friday and Saturday nights.
- Columbia Restaurant Sarasota/Bradenton area – A short drive off the island if you want Spanish cuisine; popular and often booked ahead.
Tips for dining on Longboat Key:
- Even casual restaurants can fill up quickly in April due to spring break and early season visitors.
- If you’re planning to eat at sunset, a reservation is highly recommended to secure a table with views.
- For lunch or weekday dining, many places accept walk-ins, but calling ahead is still a safe choice.
In summary, while not strictly required for all restaurants, making reservations for dinner is wise in April, especially at popular waterfront or upscale spots. Planning ahead ensures you get the table you want and avoids waiting in busy evenings.
