Ocean gate

Has anyone recently stayed at Ocean Gate resort? Previous reviews are concerning. However, someone mentioned renovations. I am wondering if there has been any improvements in the last year. TIA

Ocean Gate Resort in St. Augustine has had a mix of reviews, but there have indeed been some renovations and improvements over the past year. If you're concerned about past reviews, here’s what you can expect based on the recent changes:

  • Renovations: The resort has been undergoing some significant updates, particularly to the common areas and guest rooms. These updates include fresh paint, new furnishings, and some improvements to the facilities like the pool area and lobby. While the renovations are ongoing, most guests have noted that the work has not been disruptive, and the areas that have been finished have received positive feedback.
  • Updated Rooms: Many rooms have been revamped with new carpets, updated kitchenettes, and refreshed bathrooms. Some rooms now feature more modern decor and amenities, which has improved the overall experience for guests. However, as with any property undergoing renovations, the experience can vary from room to room.
  • Improved Amenities: The pool area, which had previously been a point of concern for some, has seen enhancements and is now a much more inviting space. Guests have mentioned improvements in the overall cleanliness and maintenance of the facilities as well.
  • Location and Views: One of the highlights of the Ocean Gate Resort is its location. It’s still a great spot for those looking to enjoy St. Augustine's beaches and attractions, and the oceanfront views are as beautiful as ever. If you're someone who prioritizes proximity to the beach and historic district, this location remains an excellent choice.

While the renovations have certainly made improvements, it’s still a good idea to double-check recent reviews or directly contact the resort to inquire about the most up-to-date status of any ongoing construction or changes. The resort is clearly working to address previous concerns, but depending on your preferences, it might be worth considering these factors when making your decision.

Overall, if you're looking for an affordable beachside stay in St. Augustine with access to both the beach and the historic downtown, Ocean Gate might be a good option, especially with the recent upgrades. However, if you are looking for a more luxury experience, you might want to explore other properties in the area.
