Alamo Rentals - GPS/Navigation included?
Hi guys
I'm renting a vehicle out of LAX in June and am asking if anybody knows if the Full Size fleet generally include a built in GPS in the vehicle? There is an option to rent but I am hoping most modern cars have some type of Navigation system built in? TIA.. Jodie x
When renting a Full Size vehicle from Alamo at LAX, it’s important to know that GPS/navigation systems are not guaranteed as a standard feature. Many modern vehicles do come with built-in navigation, but availability varies by car make and model in their fleet. The safest approach is to confirm at the time of booking or request the GPS add-on to ensure you have it.
Some details to consider:
- Alamo offers an optional GPS rental for an additional daily fee. This guarantees a standalone or built-in navigation system in your vehicle.
- Many newer cars in the Full Size or higher classes do have factory-installed touch-screen infotainment systems with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. These can provide navigation via your smartphone, effectively replacing the need for a dedicated GPS device.
- If you rely on a built-in navigation system, be aware that specific car assignments are not guaranteed. You may receive a vehicle without the system unless you reserve it explicitly.
Tips to avoid issues:
- Bring your smartphone and a charging cable; using Google Maps, Waze, or Apple Maps through CarPlay/Android Auto is usually more current than factory GPS maps.
- Check at the counter upon pickup—Alamo staff can clarify if the assigned car has a built-in navigation system.
- If having a physical GPS is essential, reserve the Alamo GPS option when booking.
In summary, while many modern Full Size Alamo cars may have built-in navigation, it is not guaranteed. Using a smartphone with CarPlay/Android Auto or renting Alamo’s GPS option ensures you’ll have navigation for your trip.
