Happy hour oysters?
Here now, husband has tasked me with trying to find the best oysters lol. Bonus points if they are on happy hour. (We can eat 20/30 of them easy!) so far had the conch republic- they were big and good, and at the hotel at Hilton. Very small, ehh. Thanks!!
Key West is known for its fresh seafood, and oysters are no exception. Many bars and restaurants offer happy hour specials with oysters at discounted prices, often served with a variety of sauces or toppings. Since you’re looking for quantity and quality, here are some popular spots that locals and visitors often recommend for happy hour oysters:
- Conch Republic Seafood Company: You’ve already tried their oysters, which are big and flavorful. They often have happy hour specials on drinks and select appetizers including oysters.
- Hogfish Bar & Grill (Stock Island, just a short drive from Key West): Famous for fresh local seafood. Oysters are available fresh and delicious, and while they don’t always have a formal happy hour, portions are generous and prices reasonable.
- Half Shell Raw Bar: Known for casual seafood dining and large portions. They often have daily specials and happy hour prices on oysters and other shellfish.
- Blue Heaven: While primarily known for brunch, they sometimes feature fresh oysters depending on the season and availability.
- Louie’s Backyard: Upscale option with a view of the ocean. Check for late afternoon specials; oysters are fresh and well-presented.
Tips for oyster-hunting in Key West:
- Oysters can vary in size and flavor depending on the source and time of year, so it’s worth sampling a few places.
- Ask the server if they have any “happy hour” or “special oyster” deals; sometimes these are not listed online.
- If you’re aiming to eat 20–30 oysters, consider pairing them with light beers or sparkling wine to balance the richness.
- Many locals recommend starting at Conch Republic for quantity, then hopping to Half Shell Raw Bar or Hogfish for variety and local flavor.
Overall, Key West has plenty of options for oyster lovers, from casual raw bars to more upscale waterfront dining. Happy hunting—and enjoy the fresh, salty flavors!
