Hi! We have booked Shades of Green 22Apr-2May. The Tripadvisor reviews are mixed. We want a family friendly hotel with a water park, or at least a decent pool at a military rate (Shades of Green is $230/ night).
Can anyone either pass us on a review for a current stay or recommend another place?
Thanks much!
Shades of Green is a popular resort for military families, and it offers a convenient location near Disney World. However, the reviews can be mixed, and it’s understandable that you're seeking more family-friendly options with amenities like a water park or decent pool facilities, especially at a military rate. Here’s some insight into Shades of Green, as well as a few alternatives that you might want to consider:
Shades of Green Resort:
Shades of Green is part of the Armed Forces Recreation Centers (AFRC) and is designed for military families, so it’s an affordable option for those eligible. The resort features a decent pool, and while it's not a full-scale water park, it does have a family-friendly atmosphere. It’s also located very close to Disney World, which is a huge plus if you're planning to visit the parks. However, some guests report that the rooms are a bit outdated, and the food options on-site are limited compared to other resorts in the area. The $230/night rate with the military discount is generally considered reasonable for the amenities and location, but expectations may vary depending on personal preferences. It’s important to note that while it’s great for families with a military background, some travelers find it less luxurious compared to other nearby hotels.
Other Family-Friendly Options:
If you’re looking for something with more amenities, like a water park or a larger pool area, here are a few alternatives that offer great facilities at competitive prices:
Things to Consider:
- If you’re set on staying at Shades of Green, the military rate and proximity to the Disney parks are great benefits. The pool may not be as extensive as you’re looking for, but it’s still a good option for families on a budget.
However, if you're looking for a larger water park experience, more amenities, or even a luxury experience with activities for kids, you may want to consider the other resorts listed above. The Four Seasons and Disney properties are definitely pricier but offer fantastic experiences for families. It ultimately depends on your budget and priorities for your stay.
Hope this helps in making your decision, and enjoy your trip to Orlando!
