First time to Guangzhou

Question

I am going to Guangzhou in may for about 9 days and planning to do a day trips to Shenzhen, Foshan etc. May i know which area i should be staying for 1st timer and that is convenient to go take trains to Shenzhen etc.

Anyway other day trips that recommended to go besides Shenzhen, Foshan?

Is it recommended to take high speed train or I can take local trains or buses?

Any advice would be helpful.
