Transit hotels for China Southern business class passangers
Does anyone know if China Southern still offer free transit accommodation for passengers? I have business class tickets booked and although there is something on their website that says there is transit accommodation, I can't seem to find how you go about booking these in advance for yourself. I am travelling with a 3 and 5 year old so I don't want to wait until arrival at the airport as I don't want to risk not getting a room and our transit time is 12 hours+ each way.
Any advice and recommendations appreciated!

China Southern Airlines has historically offered free transit accommodation for passengers with long layovers, especially for business class passengers, but the policy and booking process can vary depending on the route, the airport, and current airline regulations. Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) is the main hub where this service is available.
Key details about the transit accommodation for business class passengers:
- The free transit hotel service is generally offered to passengers with a layover exceeding a certain number of hours, often 6–8 hours or more. Your 12-hour layover should qualify.
- The service usually applies only to international-to-international or international-to-domestic connecting flights within China, depending on the specific fare class and route.
- Booking the transit hotel in advance is recommended, especially when traveling with young children, to ensure availability. Waiting until arrival at the airport may risk not getting a room.
How to arrange transit accommodation in advance:
- Contact China Southern Airlines directly via their customer service hotline or through your booking reference. Specify that you are traveling in business class and provide your flight details and layover duration. Ask them to arrange the transit hotel in advance.
- Check the China Southern Airlines website under “Special Services” or “Transit Accommodation” sections. Some routes allow online reservation for transit hotels, although it may not always be visible depending on your ticket.
- If you booked through a travel agent or online platform, they can sometimes arrange the transit hotel on your behalf. Confirm this in advance.
- Keep all confirmations and reference numbers, and bring your passport and boarding pass to present at the hotel check-in.
Alternative recommendations if the airline cannot confirm a room in advance:
- Book a nearby hotel independently and request a shuttle from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. Many hotels near the airport cater to transit passengers.
- Consider airport lounges with sleeping facilities if only a few hours of rest are needed. Some premium lounges offer private rooms or quiet areas suitable for children.
- Confirm with the airline upon check-in for any last-minute availability. Occasionally, they can still accommodate passengers even if prior booking wasn’t made.
In summary, China Southern still provides free transit hotels for business class passengers, but it is essential to contact the airline in advance to secure the booking, especially with young children and long layovers. If confirmation isn’t possible online, direct communication via phone or email is the most reliable method.
