Can I visit Macau on a single journey Hong Kong e-visa?

Hi everyone!

I have an Indian passport. I planned to visit Hong Kong and Macau in April. I got my e-visa as a single journey e-visa valid for 7 days. I understand now that with a single journey e-visa, I won't be able to go to Macau and come back to Hong Kong during the trip.

I am now planning to go to Macau on the last day of my trip. Here's what I intend to do:

1. Exit Hong Kong and go to Macau on 12th April. Check-in and stay the night there.

2. Check out from Macau hotel at 8:30 AM and directly proceed to the Macau HK Direct bus service to take the 10/11 am bus to the airport. (https://www.macauhkairportbus.com/)

3. Check in my luggage at Sky Pier terminal (I am flying back to Delhi on an Indigo flight and it is part of the list of airlines that allow check in as per this list: https://www.hongkongairport.com/en/transport/mainland-connection/participating-airlines-list.page)

4. Fly out

Is this possible to do? Any one who has done this recently? Any experts to help with this?

With a single-entry Hong Kong e-visa, you are allowed to enter Hong Kong only once. This means that if you leave Hong Kong to visit Macau, your visa will no longer be valid for re-entry into Hong Kong. Therefore, traveling from Hong Kong to Macau and then back to Hong Kong to take a flight from SkyPier will not be possible under a single-entry visa.

Here are the key points to consider:

  • The single-entry e-visa permits only one entry into Hong Kong. Exiting Hong Kong to visit Macau counts as leaving Hong Kong, which invalidates your visa for any re-entry.
  • Macau has a separate visa policy. Indian passport holders need a Macau visa unless they are eligible for visa-free entry. Make sure your Macau entry is allowed.
  • SkyPier check-in services are located in Hong Kong International Airport but require you to be in Hong Kong with a valid visa. Without the ability to re-enter Hong Kong from Macau, you cannot use SkyPier check-in.

Practical options you could consider:

  • Apply for a multiple-entry Hong Kong visa instead of a single-entry e-visa. This would allow you to visit Macau and return to Hong Kong before flying out.
  • Fly out of Macau directly to your next destination if your airline and route allow it, bypassing the need to re-enter Hong Kong.
  • Reorganize your itinerary so that your Macau visit occurs before you enter Hong Kong, or only after your last day in Hong Kong without requiring re-entry.

In summary, your current plan with a single-entry e-visa is not feasible if you intend to go to Macau and then return to Hong Kong for the airport. You would need to adjust your visa type or travel route accordingly.
