Disney gift cards
My son is heading to Disney with a school group and I’m trying to figure out the best way to give him some money, without having him carry a lot of cash.
If I buy him a Disney eGift card, how would he use it? Can he load it into his myDisney app?
TIA for any thoughts/advice!
Disney gift cards are a convenient and secure way to give your son spending money for his trip without him carrying cash. Disney offers both physical gift cards and eGift cards, which can be used throughout the Walt Disney World Resort, including theme parks, water parks, Disney Springs, restaurants, and shops.
Here’s how an eGift card works and how it can be used:
- Once you purchase a Disney eGift card, you will receive a code via email. This code can be printed or saved digitally.
- Your son can link the eGift card to his myDisney Experience account using the My Disney Experience app or website. There is an option in the app to “Link a Gift Card or Promotional Code” where he can enter the eGift card number and PIN.
- After linking, the balance is available for purchases throughout Disney properties. He can use it for meals, merchandise, or even tickets if needed. The balance automatically updates as he uses the card.
- If he loses the physical card or misplaces the code, as long as it’s linked to his My Disney Experience account, the funds remain safe and accessible.
Additional tips for parents:
- Consider setting a budget and buying the card in increments to help him manage spending.
- The eGift card can also be used in advance for online purchases, such as souvenirs or dining reservations, reducing the need to carry the card physically.
- Encourage him to check his balance regularly in the app to avoid surprises.
- Disney gift cards cannot be used to reload cash or withdrawn as cash; they are specifically for Disney purchases.
Overall, Disney eGift cards are very user-friendly, especially when integrated with the My Disney Experience app, and provide a safe and convenient way for a child to have spending money while at the parks.
