Bus

Can you still pay cash on the bus? When I was last in Miami 18 months ago I was paying cash on the 100 & 150 bus. Is this still the case?

Many Thanks

Yes, you can still pay cash on most Miami-Dade Transit buses, including the 100 (Beach MAX) and 150 (Miami Beach South Beach) routes. However, there are a few important updates and tips to keep in mind:

Cash payment:

  • Exact change is required; bus drivers do not give change. Make sure you have the correct fare in coins or bills.
  • As of recent updates, the cash fare for a local bus ride is typically $2.25 for a standard ride, but check the latest fare on the Miami-Dade Transit website before you go.

Other payment options:

  • Metrorail & SMART Card: Using a reloadable EASY Card or EASY Ticket is more convenient and faster than paying cash.
  • Contactless Payment: Miami-Dade Transit has introduced contactless options for buses, so you can use credit/debit cards or mobile wallets on certain routes, making boarding quicker.

Tips for bus travel:

  • Boarding with an EASY Card is often faster than using cash, especially during busy times.
  • Double-check schedules, as evening and weekend service can differ from weekday schedules.
  • Keep in mind that buses in Miami Beach can get crowded, especially during tourist season, so having an EASY Card can make your trip smoother.

In summary, yes, cash is still accepted, but using an EASY Card or contactless payment is strongly recommended for convenience and faster boarding.
