Walking safety to my hotel at night

L'enfant plaza stop to Hyatt Place National mall,400 E st .... safe to walk over at night alone? or better to take Lyft from airport over to hotel? I have a choice of super early,or later in day flights and considering options.

The area around L'Enfant Plaza in Washington DC is generally considered a busy, commercial zone with office buildings, hotels, and public transit access. During the day, it is well-trafficked and safe for walking. However, at night, especially after office buildings close, the streets can become quieter, which may make some people feel uneasy walking alone, particularly if you are unfamiliar with the area.

Your hotel, Hyatt Place National Mall at 400 E St SW, is only about a 5–7 minute walk (roughly 0.3 miles) from the L'Enfant Plaza Metro station. The route is straightforward along well-lit streets, but personal safety is always a consideration when traveling alone at night.

  • Walking at night: If you are comfortable with urban walking and are alert, this short route is generally manageable. Stick to the main streets (like 7th St SW and E St SW), avoid alleys or side streets, and stay aware of your surroundings.
  • Using Lyft or Uber: This is the safest and most convenient option, especially if arriving late at night or if you have luggage. The cost is minimal for such a short ride, and it gives peace of mind.
  • Airport shuttle or taxi: If your flight arrives during early morning hours, using a hotel shuttle or taxi service can also be convenient and ensures you reach your hotel safely.

Other considerations:

  • If your flight is early morning, the area may be very quiet, so a ride-share is recommended.
  • Later in the day, when streets are busier and there are more people around, walking is a reasonable option.
  • Always keep your phone handy, and share your arrival plans with someone for extra safety.

In summary, the walk from L'Enfant Plaza Metro to your hotel is short and on well-lit streets, but at night alone, many travelers prefer to take a Lyft or Uber for added safety and convenience, especially if arriving late or with luggage.
