Large group private transfer ANC to Whittier

Hi all

Does anyone have any personal recommendations for a company/person to transport a group of 9 with luggage from Anchorage to Whittier? I’ve just been on the alaskacruisetransfer website and I just didn’t get the right feeling from the payment page before parting with over $600. I suppose I’m one of those people that needs to read lots of good and recent reviews of providers but this is proving a little elusive from the transportation providers listed on TA.

Thanks in advance

For a group of 9 traveling from Anchorage to Whittier, arranging a private transfer is a smart choice, especially if you have luggage and want a stress-free experience. The drive is about 60 miles one way, mostly along the Seward Highway, and can take roughly 1.5–2 hours depending on traffic and road conditions. Here are some practical options and considerations:

Private transfer options:

  • Alaska Shuttle Services / Alaska Cruise Transfers: Many travelers use these companies for reliable private vans or small buses. While you mentioned concerns about the payment page, they often have phone booking options where you can verify pricing and service before paying online.
  • Local private van or limo companies: Anchorage has several reputable providers that cater to cruise passengers, including:
    • Alaska Private Tours & Transfers – offers custom van or SUV transport for small groups.
    • Anchorage Limo & Shuttle – can accommodate larger groups and luggage.
    • Prince of Whales Tours – known for cruise-related transfers, may be able to arrange a private vehicle.
  • Rideshare or car rental with driver: Some travelers book a large SUV or passenger van rental and hire a local driver for the day. This gives flexibility on departure time and route stops.

Tips for booking:

  • Confirm vehicle size: Ensure the van or shuttle can comfortably fit 9 passengers plus luggage.
  • Check for recent reviews: Look for mentions of timeliness, comfort, and responsiveness. TA reviews can be helpful, but also check Google and Yelp for the latest feedback.
  • Book in advance: Even private transfers can fill up quickly during cruise season (May–September), so securing a reservation early is best.
  • Clarify pricing and payment: Ask about all fees upfront, including gratuity or fuel surcharges, so there are no surprises.
  • Plan departure time with buffer: Consider leaving Anchorage at least 4–4.5 hours before your cruise boarding window to allow for traffic, bathroom stops, and tunnel timing.

Overall, a reputable private van or shuttle service booked with confirmation by phone or email is the most reliable way for a group of your size to reach Whittier comfortably and on time.
