El Tovar Breakfast

Hi! I was wondering how much time to allow for for breakfast at El Tovar. We have reservations at 9:30 am and then plan to make our way to the Grand Canyon Visitor Center to pick up bike rentals from Canyon Adventures Bike Tours. I'm trying to decide if we should schedule our bike pick up for 11 or 12:00 . TIA for your advice!

Breakfast at El Tovar typically takes about 60 to 75 minutes, depending on how busy the restaurant is and whether you are just having a quick meal or enjoying a more relaxed breakfast. Since you have a 9:30 am reservation, you can expect to finish around 10:45 to 11:00 am.

After breakfast, the walk or drive to the Grand Canyon Visitor Center is only a few minutes, but you should also allow a little extra time to pick up your bike rentals and get fitted properly. Canyon Adventures Bike Tours usually recommends arriving a few minutes early to complete paperwork and adjust your bike if needed.

Recommendation for bike pick-up:

  • Scheduling your bike pick-up at 11:00 am is generally sufficient and should work well with a 9:30 am breakfast reservation.
  • If you prefer a very relaxed breakfast or anticipate a wait, scheduling for 11:15 am gives you a buffer without cutting into your biking time.
  • Scheduling for 12:00 pm would be more cautious but may reduce the total biking time you have for your planned ride along the rim or down the bike paths.

In summary, a 9:30 am breakfast at El Tovar followed by an 11:00–11:15 am bike pick-up allows for a comfortable pace without rushing, giving you plenty of time to enjoy both the meal and your biking adventure.
