Dinner with Sunset Views

Is there a good dining spot with sunset views? It’s my niece and I so it doesn’t need to be romantic…lol! Just somewhere with a great Mountain View I can reserve for our first night in town (a Sunday)

Also, what are the rules in Colorado for an 18 year old? Can she go into all places, or are there “over 21 only” rules? For example, “The Sink” seems to be a bar, but I can’t find an age limit on the website.

Boulder offers several dining spots with beautiful mountain views that are perfect for a casual dinner with your niece. Since it’s a Sunday evening, making a reservation in advance is a good idea, especially for popular spots with views.

Recommended Dining Spots with Mountain Views:

  • Chautauqua Dining Hall – Located at the base of the Flatirons, this historic spot has large windows with stunning views. The atmosphere is casual and family-friendly, and it’s great for a first evening in Boulder.
  • Flagstaff House – More upscale, perched on Flagstaff Mountain. Excellent views of Boulder and the surrounding mountains at sunset. Reservations are strongly recommended.
  • Rincon Argentino – While not mountain-top, it’s near trails and has a nice patio with views. More casual and kid-friendly, offering Argentine cuisine.
  • Oak at Fourteenth – Located downtown with a rooftop terrace that provides nice sunset views over the foothills. A relaxed, modern spot.
  • Mountain Sun Pub & Brewery (for a casual vibe) – Has some outside seating with partial mountain views, very casual and fun for a relaxed dinner.

Colorado Rules for 18-Year-Olds:

Colorado law sets the minimum drinking age at 21. This affects access to bars, breweries, and restaurants that serve alcohol:

  • An 18-year-old can enter restaurants that serve alcohol but cannot be served or consume alcohol.
  • Some bars or breweries may have “21+ only” rules, especially at night, so it’s best to check with the specific establishment.
  • Family-friendly restaurants that serve alcohol, like Chautauqua Dining Hall or Flagstaff House during dinner, are generally fine for an 18-year-old accompanied by an adult.
  • The Sink, though a bar/restaurant, allows under 21 patrons in the dining area; only the bar area may be restricted.

In summary, for a first night in Boulder with mountain sunset views, Chautauqua Dining Hall is probably the best mix of scenery, casual vibe, and accessibility for your niece. Flagstaff House is more elevated and scenic but slightly more formal. Always check with the restaurant regarding age restrictions if you plan to sit near the bar area.
