Which is better

I have a question for locals or anyone who can advise. I will be visiting Chicago the 1st week of July. It will be my second visit. I am debating on 2 Marriott properties. The 1st is Fairfield Inn and Suites River North (I have stayed there) or The Courtyard Downtown Magnificent Mile. Which one would you recommend? Is the Courtyard in a good area? I know its close to the Mag Mile which really doesn't matter.

Both the Fairfield Inn and Suites River North and the Courtyard Downtown Magnificent Mile are great choices, but the best option depends on your preferences for location, amenities, and atmosphere. Here’s a breakdown of both to help you decide:

  • Fairfield Inn and Suites River North:
    • Location: This hotel is situated in the River North area, which is known for its vibrant nightlife, excellent dining, and art galleries. If you enjoy being close to trendy restaurants, bars, and nightlife, this location is ideal. It’s also within walking distance to some popular attractions like the Chicago Riverwalk and the Merchandise Mart.
    • Atmosphere: The Fairfield Inn tends to offer a more casual, budget-friendly atmosphere compared to other hotels in the area. The rooms are typically modern and comfortable, though the hotel is more straightforward and less luxurious than some of the options nearby.
    • Proximity to Attractions: While it's not as close to the major shopping on the Magnificent Mile, it’s a short walk or quick drive away from Navy Pier, Millennium Park, and other downtown attractions. You’ll also be close to the Chicago River, which is great for scenic walks or boat tours.
  • The Courtyard Downtown Magnificent Mile:
    • Location: The Courtyard is located right on Michigan Avenue, which is known as the Magnificent Mile. This area is packed with upscale shopping, restaurants, and attractions. While you mentioned that shopping doesn’t matter to you, the location is still highly central, making it easier to walk to major sights like the John Hancock Center, Navy Pier, and the Art Institute of Chicago.
    • Atmosphere: The Courtyard tends to offer a more business-oriented, slightly more polished experience. It’s a good balance of comfort and convenience, with larger rooms and a more professional vibe compared to the Fairfield Inn. It’s also a great spot for those who want easy access to the iconic Michigan Avenue without being overwhelmed by the hustle of tourist crowds.
    • Proximity to Attractions: The Magnificent Mile is the city's shopping and entertainment hub, so if you want to be right in the middle of things, this is an excellent location. The hotel is steps away from shopping and restaurants, though it may be busier compared to the quieter River North area.

Overall, both hotels are in great locations, but here are some factors to consider:

  • Fairfield Inn and Suites River North might be a better choice if you prefer being in a trendy, artsy neighborhood with lots of dining and nightlife options. It's also a little more budget-friendly if that’s a consideration.
  • The Courtyard Downtown Magnificent Mile is a great choice if you prefer a more polished, central location with easier access to major attractions, especially if you plan to do a lot of sightseeing along Michigan Avenue.

If you’re not concerned with proximity to the Magnificent Mile and would prefer a quieter, more local vibe, the Fairfield Inn in River North might be the better choice. However, if you want to be right in the heart of the tourist action and closer to the city’s key landmarks, the Courtyard will put you in the perfect location.
