Family trip to see the Dodgers

Traveling to LA for 3-4 nights with a 9 and 12 year old with our main plan of seeing the Dodgers play the Blue Jays. Looking for a nice hotel ideally with an outdoor pool. We won’t have a car and are planning to use public transit and Uber for getting around. Hoping to find something that’s not too challenging to get to the stadium but also has some interesting things to do in the area. Appreciate any suggestions!

For a family trip to Los Angeles focused on seeing the Dodgers with kids aged 9 and 12, you'll want a hotel that is conveniently located near downtown LA or the surrounding areas with easy access to Dodger Stadium, as well as family-friendly amenities like an outdoor pool.

Here are some good hotel options that fit your needs:

  • Omni Los Angeles Hotel at California Plaza – Located near downtown and within a reasonable Uber or public transit ride to Dodger Stadium. Offers an outdoor pool, spacious rooms, and is close to The Broad museum, Grand Central Market, and other family-friendly attractions.
  • Millennium Biltmore Los Angeles – Historic downtown hotel with an outdoor pool (seasonal) and grand architecture. Walking distance to public transit and Uber rides to Dodger Stadium are convenient. Offers easy access to Little Tokyo and Pershing Square.
  • Residence Inn by Marriott Los Angeles L.A. LIVE – Suite-style rooms with kitchenettes, outdoor pool, and close to the Staples Center and LA Live area. Dodger Stadium is a short Uber ride away. Good for families who like flexibility with meals.
  • JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. LIVE – Upscale option with a pool and excellent family-friendly service. Located near LA Live and the Grammy Museum. Easy Uber access to Dodger Stadium and other downtown attractions.
  • Hilton Checkers Los Angeles – Central location downtown, recently renovated, outdoor pool, and within walking distance to Pershing Square and some dining. Uber or public transit makes it convenient for stadium access.

Other tips for your trip:

  • Dodger Stadium can be accessed via the Dodger Stadium Express shuttle from Union Station, which is convenient if you prefer not to rely solely on Uber.
  • Consider exploring family-friendly attractions in the downtown LA area, like The Broad, California Science Center, Grand Central Market, or the Natural History Museum, all within reasonable distance from these hotels.
  • Public transit in LA is improving but limited, so planning Uber rides for evenings or when visiting Dodger Stadium will save time and make travel with kids easier.
  • If your kids enjoy a bit of fun outdoors, Echo Park Lake (paddle boats) and the Griffith Observatory are also reachable via Uber from downtown hotels.

Overall, staying in downtown LA gives you the best combination of access to Dodger Stadium, interesting attractions for kids, and hotels with outdoor pools. The Omni and Residence Inn are particularly good for families wanting comfort, amenities, and convenience.
