Redwood Skywalk or Trees of Mystery???
Hello,
We will be in Redwood NP later this month. We have 2 nights in Trinidad. We only have time for one. I read some reviews, but I am still not sure which one I should go for. Please advise. TIA
Deciding between the Redwood Skywalk and the Trees of Mystery depends on what kind of experience you’re looking for during your limited time in the Redwoods.
Redwood Skywalk:
- Features a series of elevated walkways and viewing platforms through the forest canopy.
- Offers unique perspective of the redwoods from above, giving you a “bird’s eye” view of the trees and forest floor.
- Typically less crowded than the more touristy Trees of Mystery.
- Focuses on natural beauty with minimal distractions; great for photography and those who want a more serene experience.
- Shorter walk, easier for all ages and mobility levels, usually 1–2 hours.
Trees of Mystery:
- Classic Northern California tourist attraction with larger-than-life statues (Paul Bunyan, Babe the Blue Ox) along the trail.
- Has a gondola ride to an observation tower — nice views of the forest and surrounding area.
- More commercialized, includes gift shops and some kitschy attractions.
- Trail is mostly flat and shaded, suitable for families, and may take 1–3 hours depending on pace and side exhibits.
- Good for combining a bit of forest hike with some quirky entertainment and photo ops.
Recommendation:
If your goal is to fully immerse yourself in the natural redwood forest and enjoy a quieter, more scenic experience, the Redwood Skywalk is likely the better choice. If you want a combination of forest walking, a gondola view, and fun, memorable photo stops with a bit of entertainment, then Trees of Mystery is a solid option.
Since you have only one day and are staying in Trinidad, the Skywalk is closer to your area, which could save driving time and let you enjoy more of the surrounding natural beauty.
