Redwood and Napa Valley

Hello is it possible to go to the Redwood National Park and Napa Valley on a weekend trip? What area should we stay in? Is June a good time for both?

Thanks in advance! This is kind of last minute, don’t judge me lol!

Attempting to combine Redwood National Park and Napa Valley into a single weekend trip is extremely challenging due to distance. The two areas are roughly 300–350 miles apart, which translates to a 6–7 hour drive one way under ideal conditions. That means a weekend would be mostly driving, leaving very little time to enjoy either destination.

June is actually a good time to visit both locations. Redwood National Park will be lush and green, with generally mild temperatures (50–70°F) and lower chances of fog than in summer months. Napa Valley in June is lovely for vineyard views, wine tasting, and outdoor dining, with warm days (70s–80s°F) and long daylight hours.

If you still want to attempt a weekend trip, consider the following strategies:

  • Base yourself closer to one location to reduce travel stress. For example, stay in the Napa Valley area and make a quick day trip to southern redwood groves, though this is still a 5–6 hour one-way drive.
  • Alternatively, focus on northern California coastal redwoods near Humboldt or Redwood National Park and skip Napa, or combine it with Sonoma vineyards, which are closer to the coast.
  • Plan to fly into a nearby airport (Eureka/Arcata for Redwoods or Sacramento/SFO for Napa) and rent a car to maximize your sightseeing time rather than attempting both by road in a single weekend.

Given the distances, a more feasible option would be:

  • Spend a weekend in Napa Valley for wine tasting, vineyard tours, and scenic drives.
  • Plan a separate 2–3 day trip to Redwood National Park to fully enjoy hiking, scenic drives, and wildlife.

In summary, while June is excellent for both destinations, trying to do them both in one weekend is not practical. Prioritize one area for quality experiences rather than rushing between two far-apart locations.
