Terracotta Museum - by Train Lintong Station
We are planning to take the train from Xi'an Railway Station to Lintong Station and then a taxi to the Terracotta Museum.
However almost all the travel sites not mention about this option. So wanted to check with the wider group on your experience please
Taking the train from Xi'an Railway Station to Lintong Station to visit the Terracotta Warriors Museum is indeed a possible option, though it is less commonly mentioned on international travel sites. Here’s a detailed breakdown of what to expect and how to plan your trip:
1. Train from Xi'an Railway Station to Lintong:
- Lintong Station is on the high-speed rail line connecting Xi'an to other cities in Shaanxi. There are frequent trains from Xi'an Railway Station to Lintong, but the schedule is not as comprehensive as for larger stations.
- The journey typically takes around 20–30 minutes depending on the train type.
- Tickets can be purchased in advance at the station, via the official 12306.cn website, or through Chinese apps like Ctrip or Trip.com. Make sure to have your ID (passport) ready for ticket purchase and verification.
2. Taxi or local transport from Lintong Station to the Terracotta Museum:
- The Terracotta Museum is approximately 10–15 minutes by taxi from Lintong Station.
- Taxis are readily available outside the station, but having your destination written in Chinese (兵马俑博物馆) can help avoid confusion.
- Alternatively, some buses connect Lintong Station to the museum, but schedules may be limited, and language can be a barrier.
3. Considerations:
- This route is cost-effective and faster than taking a direct tourist bus from downtown Xi'an, especially if you prefer flexible timing.
- Train frequency is lower than the buses for tourists, so check the return schedule carefully to avoid long waits.
- If traveling during peak tourist periods or holidays, trains may sell out quickly, so early booking is recommended.
- For visitors not fluent in Chinese, having a taxi or ride-hailing app (like DiDi) can make the journey easier from Lintong Station to the museum.
4. Alternative option:
- Most tourists still use direct shuttle buses or private tours from downtown Xi'an, which include round-trip transport and avoid multiple connections.
- While the train option is feasible and potentially quicker, it requires slightly more planning and confidence in local transport navigation.
Overall, taking the train to Lintong and a short taxi ride is a viable and efficient way to reach the Terracotta Museum, especially if you want flexibility and a quicker journey than a full-day tour bus. Ensure you check train schedules and plan your return carefully.
