Dropped into Fort Point yesterday. They have a special art exhibition called Black Gold Stories Untold centered around the Black experience in Californian history.
It runs through November 2nd.
It was a really great use of space. The video installations were very cool, though a bit creepy when other people left and I was the only one watching - they were several in the dark recesses of the fort.
It was a great use of the space at the fort and added to the standard exhibits they already have.
Apparently this is the same group that used Alcatraz as an exhibit space years ago.
Reminder that Fort Point is only open Friday through Sunday and has free admission.

If you’re in San Francisco before November 2nd, visiting Fort Point is a fantastic opportunity to experience the special art exhibition titled Black Gold Stories Untold. This exhibit focuses on the Black experience in California’s history, providing a unique cultural and historical perspective that complements the standard displays at the fort.
The exhibition makes creative use of the fort’s architecture and spaces. Notably, the video installations are placed in dark recesses, creating an immersive, sometimes eerie, atmosphere—especially if you happen to be the only viewer at a particular moment. This setup enhances the emotional impact and narrative of the exhibit.
Some key points about the exhibit:
Visiting Fort Point is also a treat beyond the exhibition. The fort itself offers historical insights and panoramic views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the bay, making it a rich, multi-layered experience. Combining the fort’s history with this contemporary art exhibit is highly recommended for anyone interested in art, history, or both.
