One night - hotel recommendations
Hello, we arrive from Sydney into Hong Kong at 6pm on a Sunday and our next flight is not till 8pm the next day. I would love recommendations on convenient hotels to stay that are close to the transport that gets us from and to the airport (not sure if that’s a train or bus)and that will put us in a good location for sightseeing. Our budget is probably $250AUD. Thank you
For a short overnight stay in Hong Kong with your flight arriving at 6pm and leaving the next day at 8pm, convenience to the airport and ease of sightseeing are key factors. Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) is well-connected via the Airport Express train and public buses, so choosing a hotel near either the Airport Express stations or central areas with good MTR access is ideal.
Given your budget of around 250 AUD (roughly 1,200 HKD), here are some suitable areas and hotels to consider:
- Airport Express / Kowloon Station area: Very convenient for airport transfers (about 24 minutes to HKIA by train). Hotels in this area allow easy check-in and departure. Options include:
- Regal Airport Hotel – directly linked to the airport via a short shuttle or Airport Express.
- Novotel Citygate – next to Citygate Outlets and connected to Tung Chung MTR, about 25 minutes to the airport.
- Tsim Sha Tsui / Kowloon: Excellent for sightseeing, shopping, and harbor views. Around 40–50 minutes to the airport via Airport Express or direct bus. Options include:
- Hotel ICON – modern and comfortable, close to Tsim Sha Tsui MTR.
- Butterfly on Waterfront – well-located and within your budget.
- Central / Hong Kong Island: Best for sightseeing in the city itself and quick access to Victoria Peak, Star Ferry, and dining areas. Slightly longer to airport (around 35–45 minutes). Options include:
- Ovolo Central – boutique style, close to MTR and easy sightseeing.
- Y Loft Hotel – compact and convenient, with good transport links.
Tips for your overnight stay:
- If your main priority is minimizing airport travel stress, choose a hotel near the Airport Express or in Tung Chung.
- If you want to explore Hong Kong in the evening after arrival, Kowloon or Central are better choices, but allow at least 1 hour for airport transfer the next day.
- Check if the hotel provides luggage storage or early check-in/late checkout, as this can help with timing between flights and sightseeing.
Overall, for a one-night stay with limited time, balancing airport convenience with evening sightseeing may make Kowloon (Tsim Sha Tsui) a sweet spot, offering good restaurants, shops, and the famous harbor views.
