Phoenix to Sedona day trip

Would like to drive to Sedona from Phoenix at crack of dawn and spend the day through dinner. We love good food (healthy and quality - anyone have fav eateries?) and want to experience the beauty of Sedona without major hiking (we like to walk). Are there day spas in beautiful surroundings? Good views from some places? Going around September 23.

Driving from Phoenix to Sedona early in the morning is a great way to enjoy a full day in this beautiful area. The drive takes roughly 2 to 2.5 hours depending on traffic, so leaving at dawn gives you plenty of daylight to explore and experience the stunning red rock scenery.

For a day without strenuous hiking but still enjoying Sedona's beauty, consider scenic drives and easy walks. The Red Rock Scenic Byway (Highway 179) offers breathtaking views with pull-offs for short strolls and photo opportunities. Oak Creek Canyon Drive is another gorgeous option with viewpoints and picnic spots.

For food, Sedona has a number of eateries offering healthy and quality meals. Some favorites include:

  • ChocolaTree Organic Oasis: Organic, vegetarian, and vegan-friendly options in a charming garden setting.
  • The Hudson: Modern American cuisine with great views from their patio.
  • Creekside American Bistro: Healthy, upscale meals right near Oak Creek with patio seating overlooking the water.
  • Picazzo’s Healthy Italian Kitchen: Gluten-free and plant-based options if you’re looking for Italian-style meals without the guilt.

If you’re interested in pampering, there are several spas in beautiful surroundings:

  • Sedona Rouge Spa: Offers full-service spa treatments with lovely indoor/outdoor ambiance.
  • L’Auberge de Sedona Spa: Located along Oak Creek with creekside cabanas, perfect for relaxation and enjoying the natural scenery.
  • Mii amo Day Spa: A luxury resort spa slightly south of Sedona, known for its serene setting and range of treatments.

Other scenic options without hiking include visiting the Chapel of the Holy Cross for panoramic views, exploring the Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village, or taking a short walk to Airport Mesa for a sunset viewpoint. Plan to end the day with dinner at one of the restaurants above or another local favorite offering views of the red rocks illuminated by the evening sun.
