San diego Safari park

I am planning to visit safari park with 2.5 yrs kid, senior citizen in November.I have checked different add on safari but not sure if it is worth to book or not. Also is it fine to took stroller and walk around safari park. I have already visited zoo last year and hence is it fine to see safari park or same as zoo.

Visiting the San Diego Safari Park in November with a young child and a senior citizen can be a very enjoyable experience. The Safari Park is quite different from the San Diego Zoo, so even if you visited the zoo last year, this park offers a more expansive and “open-range” experience with larger habitats and different ways to see the animals.

Here are some key points and recommendations for your visit:

  • Stroller-Friendly: The Safari Park is mostly stroller-friendly, but it is very large and involves some walking and gentle hills. A lightweight or umbrella-style stroller is recommended. Wheelchairs are also available for rent if a senior citizen would benefit from it.
  • Walking Around: Most exhibits can be enjoyed on foot. Some areas, like the African Plains or Gorilla Forest, are quite spread out, so comfortable shoes are recommended. You can pace the visit according to your group’s energy level.
  • Safari Add-Ons: There are several optional safari experiences, such as:
    • Caravan Safari: A guided truck tour that brings you closer to certain animals. It’s informative and fun for both adults and children.
    • Flightline Safari: A zipline over the savanna for older kids and adults; not suitable for your 2.5-year-old or seniors.
    • Cart Safari: Small group rides in open carts; these are often worth it if you want to minimize walking and see animals up close without crowds.
Booking these can enhance the experience, but for a first-time visit with a young child and a senior, the standard walking paths already offer a rich experience.
  • Comparing to the Zoo: The Safari Park is more about expansive habitats and seeing animals in large open areas, unlike the Zoo which is more compact and urban. You will see different species and larger enclosures, so it’s definitely worth visiting even if you went to the Zoo last year.
  • Food and Breaks: There are several picnic areas and cafes within the park. Plan breaks so the toddler and senior can rest between walking longer distances.
  • Timing: November tends to be cooler and less crowded, which makes it easier to enjoy the exhibits. Arriving early in the day allows you to see the most active animals.

Summary Recommendation:

  • Bring a stroller for the toddler; consider renting a wheelchair for the senior if needed.
  • The standard walking tour covers a lot of the highlights and is manageable for families.
  • Optional safari add-ons like the Caravan Safari are nice but not essential; they are more valuable if you want closer encounters without walking.
  • Yes, it’s definitely worth visiting even if you went to the San Diego Zoo; the experience and layout are quite different.

With some planning for walking and rest, your group should have a very enjoyable visit to the Safari Park in November.
