Okama Crater

One of the most beautiful places to visit during the autumn leaves season in the Tohoku region.

Okama Crater (蔵王の御釜) is a volcanic crater with a beautiful emerald lake hidden within it.
This lake is highly acidic, and no living organisms can survive.
It's located in the same area as Mount Zao.
It's a skier's paradise in winter, with snow monsters.
But during other seasons, the crater trail is open.
Tourists can enjoy the view by taking a chairlift.
Hanging their legs up to the top of the "Zao Okama Observatory" (蔵王の御釜展望台).
Those with a fear of heights might feel a little dizzy.
Once you reach the observation deck,
there's also a food court. I recommend bringing some rice balls and water. And opt for a pair of sneakers with good traction, O.S.

This place is only open from spring to autumn
(late April to early November each year).
I recommend the autumn foliage season, when the entire volcanic area
turns to orange, contrasting beautifully with the emerald green lake.
It's especially beautiful on sunny days, when the lake's color
