Visit to Beishan Old Western-style House in Kinmen

This time, I visited the Beishan Old Western-style House in Kinmen and deeply felt the historical and cultural value carried by this building. Located in Beishan Village, Kinmen, this house is a blend of Chinese and Western architectural styles, witnessing the resilient spirit of local residents amidst war and time.

The house was initially funded by overseas Chinese, and its exterior has a strong Southeast Asian style. The walls still bear the scars of wartime bullet holes, reminding us that this was once a significant battlefield during the 823 Artillery Bombardment in Kinmen. Standing inside the house, one can imagine how the villagers relied on this sturdy building to withstand the war, and better understand the challenges and perseverance brought by the war to the local residents.

In addition to the wartime history, the surrounding village of Beishan Old Western-style House also retains traditional Minnan architectural features. The red brick tiles, swallowtail ridges, and ancient alleys make one feel as if they have traveled back in time. This place is not only a historical site but also a place where one can quietly experience the cultural charm of Kinmen.

This visit gave me a deeper understanding of Kinmen's history and made me reflect on the meaning of war and peace. The Beishan Old Western-style House is not just a building made of bricks and tiles, but a cultural heritage that carries memories and stories, worth savoring by every visitor to Kinmen.
