Kyoto Heian Shrine｜Majestic Giant Torii Gate Captivates Visitors, Main Hall Under Renovation but Still Worth a Visit.

Located in Kyoto's Okazaki area, Heian Shrine is undoubtedly one of the must-see landmarks. Although the main hall is currently under renovation and cannot be fully explored, the first thing that catches your eye as you walk along the shrine avenue is the imposing giant vermilion torii gate. Its grandeur is truly breathtaking, making it impossible not to stop and take photos.

Even with the main hall under construction, the corridors near the shrine garden and the spacious plaza remain open to visitors. Strolling through these areas still allows you to experience the solemnity and elegance of the ancient capital. If you have time, you can also plan to visit nearby attractions such as the Kyoto City Museum of Art, Nanzen-ji Temple, and Okazaki Shrine, making it perfect for a leisurely half-day walking tour.
