Known as "Mercure Hotel" in Japan, I have stayed at several Accor chain hotels in places like Okinawa (Naha), Nagoya, and Tokyo (Narita). These hotels often remind me of Crowne Plaza, as they share a similar vibe.
Now, Mercure has opened a location in Hongdae, Seoul. Interestingly, while it was called "Mercure" in Japan, in Korea, it’s referred to as "머큐어" (Mercure). My friend and I decided to book separate rooms for a staycation.
This gave us the chance to explore two different room types. I stayed in the Superior Deluxe King room, which offered a view of the L7 Hongdae Hotel across the street. My room also featured a balcony.
My friend’s room was a Superior King with a view of Namsan Tower. The Superior King room had a sofa and table, making it more convenient for enjoying snacks and drinks at night compared to the Deluxe King, which had a tiny balcony. However, the Deluxe King’s balcony, though small and more like a railing, provided a sense of openness and even allowed a distant view of the Han River between the buildings.
In areas like Fukuoka’s Hakata, Sapporo’s Susukino, or Osaka’s Namba, business hotels are densely packed, and the view often consists of the neighboring hotel’s windows. Similarly, here in Hongdae, the Mercure and L7 Hongdae face each other across a street, so it’s better to keep the curtains closed for privacy, especially at night when the view is more vivid.
The hotel entrance is located on a side alley rather than the main Hongdae street. You can also access the elevator entrance through the Musinsa store on the main street.
The reception is on the 4th floor, requiring a transfer to reach the guest rooms. The hotel provides disposable amenities, including items like single-use spoons and chopsticks.
I also had breakfast the next day. On weekdays, breakfast is served as individual dishes, while on weekends, it’s buffet-style. I ordered Yukgaejang (spicy beef soup), and the brass bowl it was served in was a nice touch. Thank you!
