Kaifeng's Bianjing Park, formerly known as Qilu Garden, was renamed Bianjing Park in 1962. The city government listed the park's renovation project as one of Kaifeng's "Top Ten Public Welfare Projects" in 2015. Completed and opened on April 30, 2015, it is a comprehensive public park integrating cultural entertainment, landscaping, children's science education, marine knowledge, and sports and fitness.
The west side of the river within Bianjing Park, from south to north, consists of the city wall green area, the swimming pool area, the Shangyi Wufang area, and the zoo area in the northernmost part. The east side of the river, from south to north, consists of the Chairman Mao Square, the National Culture and Fitness Square, the entertainment and leisure area, the sports and fitness area, and the aquarium area in the north. A multifunctional sports field was constructed on the east side of the river, and the National Culture Square was constructed after the demolition of the Youth Activity Center. In terms of hardware construction, the functions have been divided and expanded, with the construction of the National Culture Square, the Shangyi Wufang Square, and the sports and fitness area.
Located in the northwest corner of Bianjing Park, the zoo covers 48 mu and officially opened to the public on April 8, 2017. It highlights the integration of bonsai culture and animal culture, creating a small urban ecological zoo that integrates ecology, science education, and leisure activities without destroying the original ecosystem.
