TUI Melbourne Airport

Can anyone who has flew into and back home to the UK via Melbourne Airport give me their experience please.

E.g Customs on entering Orlando, Speed, Luggage collection. Also when flying back home what is it like air side as I believe there is only 2 places to eat before flight.

Many thanks

Flying to and from Melbourne Orlando Airport with TUI can be straightforward, but there are a few practical points to know about both arrival in Orlando and departure back to the UK.

Arrival in Orlando (Customs & Luggage):

  • Immigration & Customs: Upon arrival in Orlando, you will go through U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Lines can vary depending on the time of day and the number of international flights. Automated passport control kiosks are available for UK and other eligible travelers, which can speed up the process.
  • Luggage Collection: After clearing customs, you will collect your checked luggage from the designated carousel. Following this, you may go through a secondary inspection or re-check if you are connecting to a domestic flight.
  • Speed: Typically, the process can take anywhere from 30 minutes to over an hour, depending on the number of flights arriving at the same time. Early morning and late evening arrivals tend to be quicker than mid-day arrivals.

Departure from Melbourne Airport to the UK:

  • Check-in & Security: Arrive at least 3 hours before an international flight. Check-in counters for TUI are generally efficient, but lines can build up during peak season.
  • Airside Facilities: Post-security, Melbourne Airport has limited dining options for international departures. As noted, there may be only 2 main places to eat, so plan accordingly if you want a substantial meal before boarding.
  • Seating & Waiting: Seating near the gates can be limited during busy periods. If traveling with family, it may be helpful to arrive at the gate early to secure seats together.
  • Duty-Free: There is a duty-free store, but selection is smaller compared to major hubs. You can purchase souvenirs and some travel essentials.

Tips:

  • Have all travel documents ready for both arrival and departure, including ESTA, passport, and return tickets.
  • If traveling with checked luggage, label everything clearly and keep essentials in hand luggage in case of delays.
  • Consider bringing snacks or a light meal for the departure, as options airside are limited.
  • Be prepared for security screening, including liquids and electronics, which are standard U.S. procedures.

Overall, TUI flights via Melbourne Orlando Airport are generally smooth, but allowing extra time for customs on arrival and limited airside options on departure will help avoid stress.
