Union Station Safety
Hello,
I wanted to know if there is any safe seating area inside Union Station.
I want to go from LAXFlyAway to Flixbus Stop, but I need to wait for around 3 hours for my next connection.
Is it safe to sit in the station with luggage?
Need your help as it is my first time at the station.
Union Station in Los Angeles is a major transportation hub with Amtrak, Metrolink, Metro Rail, and various bus services. It is generally safe, but like many busy urban transit centers, it’s important to stay aware of your surroundings, especially if you are sitting for several hours with luggage.
Safe Seating Areas
- The main waiting areas inside the station, near the Amtrak and Metrolink ticket counters, are generally considered safe and well-monitored. There are benches and seating areas where travelers routinely wait for trains and buses.
- Some travelers prefer the indoor seating near the ticketing area or the food court for added foot traffic and visibility, which can deter theft.
- Union Station has security patrols and CCTV cameras in key areas, but it is still wise to keep your belongings close and in sight at all times.
Tips for Waiting Safely with Luggage
- Keep luggage close to you, preferably between your legs or attached to your seat when possible.
- Avoid leaving bags unattended, even for a short time to grab a snack or restroom break.
- If you plan to wait for a long time, consider using luggage storage or lockers if available, especially for larger bags.
- Stay in areas with higher foot traffic rather than isolated corners or hallways.
- Check the station’s operating hours and stay in areas that remain open for travelers during off-peak times.
Overall, many first-time travelers sit and wait at Union Station without issue, but taking basic precautions will help ensure a safe and comfortable wait for your Flixbus connection.
