Filipino visa for Shenzhen?

Hi everyone, does anyone know if Filipino nationals with domestic worker HK visas can apply for the simple 5 days visas at the Lo Wu/Luohu border crossing? My family might be visiting soon and our helper might come too as she has never been to China before and the childcare will be useful as well! (Please spare me the judgment when replying, I know how awful I sound. I would judge me too.) There is a list online from ‘chinadiscovery.com’ which lists some countries whose citizens are NOT eligible and Philippines isn’t one of them.

Any personal experience of this? Thanks in advance. And apologies to myself before I moved to HK…

Filipino nationals who hold valid Hong Kong domestic worker visas may be eligible to apply for a 5-day Shenzhen visa upon arrival at the Lo Wu (Luohu) border crossing, but there are some important points to note.

Eligibility and process:

  • The 5-day Shenzhen visa on arrival is typically intended for tourists from countries not requiring a pre-arranged Chinese visa for short visits to Shenzhen only.
  • Filipino passport holders are generally eligible for this visa, provided they have a valid Hong Kong visa or residence permit. The border authorities may ask for proof of employment, residence, or the Hong Kong visa sticker in the passport.
  • It is strictly for visits to Shenzhen city and does not allow travel to other parts of mainland China.
  • The application at the border is usually straightforward: complete the application form, provide a passport-sized photo, show your passport and Hong Kong visa, and pay the fee (typically around 168 RMB).

Tips and considerations:

  • Arrive early, as queues can be long, especially during weekends or holidays.
  • Ensure the passport is valid for at least six months from the date of entry.
  • Check if there are any temporary restrictions or policy changes due to public health measures or special events, as these can affect visa issuance.
  • The visa is single-entry; if your helper leaves Shenzhen and wants to return, a new visa would be required.
  • While many travelers report smooth processing, border officers have discretion, so carrying supporting documents (employment contract, invitation letter, or proof of purpose of visit) can help.

In summary, yes, your helper can likely obtain the 5-day Shenzhen visa at Lo Wu/Luohu border if all eligibility conditions are met, but it is limited to Shenzhen city and not the rest of China. Preparing documents and arriving early improves the likelihood of a smooth entry.
