Osprey & Cape Canaveral 1 week in Feb w/ family of 6

We’re visiting family in Osprey the second week of February and will be there for a week. The kids and I go about once a year and are happy to just kind of hang out. Hubby is coming this time so I’m looking to fill our itinerary! He’s not a huge beach fan but will go for a few hours one day. We are spending 2-3 days to visit the Kennedy space center. What else might you add?

I was thinking Myakka River State park? What else? lol! Kids ages are 17, 15, 11 and 1.

Visiting Osprey and Cape Canaveral in February is a great idea, as the weather is usually mild and comfortable. Since you have a mix of ages and interests—including a non-beach-loving adult and young children—you’ll want a balance of outdoor adventure, educational experiences, and some relaxed downtime.

Here are some itinerary suggestions beyond the Kennedy Space Center and Myakka River State Park:

  • Myakka River State Park: Definitely worth a visit. You can do airboat tours, wildlife spotting, and enjoy walking trails or a canopy walkway. It’s great for kids who love nature and animals.
  • Bok Tower Gardens: About 45 minutes from Osprey, this historic garden and bird sanctuary has beautiful landscapes, a singing tower, and walking trails. It’s quiet and scenic, offering a nice break from the busier areas.
  • Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium (Sarasota): Fun and educational for all ages, especially for your 11- and 15-year-olds. Hands-on exhibits and marine life displays keep everyone engaged.
  • LEGOLAND Florida: If your kids enjoy theme parks, this is a half-day trip north of Osprey. It’s family-friendly and fun, though your 17-year-old may not be as excited.
  • Day trip to Tampa: Consider a visit to Busch Gardens if your family enjoys thrill rides, or the Florida Aquarium if you want a calmer experience. Tampa is about 2 hours drive, so plan accordingly.
  • Orlando Science Center / Kennedy Space Center IMAX: For additional educational experiences near the space center, IMAX films or science exhibits can complement the main visits.

Closer to Cape Canaveral:

  • Cocoa Beach Pier: Even if hubby isn’t a beach fan, a short walk along the pier and a casual meal can be enjoyable for the family.
  • Exploration Tower at Port Canaveral: Offers interactive exhibits, great views of the port, and educational activities about space and maritime history.
  • Historic Cocoa Village: Quaint shops, cafés, and a relaxed stroll make for a low-key, pleasant afternoon.

Other tips:

  • Plan your days around the ages of your children—include some shorter, low-key activities for the 1-year-old and more engaging, hands-on adventures for the older kids.
  • Consider renting a car for flexibility; many of the parks, gardens, and attractions are spread out in Central and Space Coast Florida.
  • Bring layers; February mornings and evenings can be cooler, especially near the coast.

With this mix, you’ll get a combination of space-themed excitement, nature and wildlife exploration, cultural experiences, and light beach time without overloading the trip. Myakka River and Kennedy Space Center will be highlights, while gardens, aquariums, and piers provide variety for the family.
