Miami Intermodal center question

We have friends that need transportation from Key West to the Miami airport- the most economical (unless you all have other suggestions) appears to be the Greyhound bus from Key West to the intermodal center.

They are NOT travel savvy-

I need clear instructions on how it works to get to MIA once the Greyhound bus drops them off at the Intermodal Center.

Explain it to me like I’m 5 years old the exact steps needed to get from Intermodal Center to MIA - and it is a free service, correct?

Hi!

Getting from the Miami Greyhound bus stop at the Miami Intermodal Center (MIC) to Miami International Airport (MIA) is actually very straightforward, and there is a free service that makes it easy even for people who aren’t travel-savvy. I’ll break it down step by step, as simply as possible.

First, understand that the Miami Intermodal Center is basically a big transport hub connected to the airport. The Greyhound bus stops here, and MIA is just a short shuttle ride away.

Here’s how your friends can get from the Greyhound drop-off to the airport terminals:

  • Step 1: When the Greyhound bus arrives at the Intermodal Center, they will disembark at the Greyhound station inside the MIC. They should gather all their bags and follow signs for “Airport Shuttle” or “MIA Mover.”
  • Step 2: Walk to the MIA Mover station inside the MIC. It’s clearly marked, usually with signs saying “To Airport Terminals.” The MIA Mover is an automated train that runs every few minutes.
  • Step 3: Board the MIA Mover train. It goes directly to the airport terminals, stopping at both North Terminal (for American Airlines) and Central/South Terminals (for other airlines).
  • Step 4: The ride is very short, around 5–10 minutes. Once the train stops at the correct terminal, get off and follow signs to baggage claim, check-in, or departures depending on their flight.

Important details:

  • The MIA Mover is completely free, so no tickets or payments are needed.
  • It operates 24/7, so there’s no need to worry about timing.
  • There are elevators and escalators, so carrying luggage is easy.
  • There are helpful signs and airport staff available if needed.

Summary in very simple terms:

  • Get off Greyhound at MIC.
  • Follow signs for MIA Mover (free airport train).
  • Board the MIA Mover to your terminal.
  • Arrive at airport ready to check in.

That’s it! It’s literally one shuttle ride from the bus station to the airport terminals. Your friends don’t need to book anything in advance, and they can’t get lost if they just follow the signs for the MIA Mover.
