Zhangjiajie Railways Vs West Railway

Can someone tell me the difference between Zhangjiajie Railway Station (closer to Tianmenshan cable ropeway) and Zhangjiajie West railway Station?

The high speed train stops at west railway, right?

One of my itinerary is train from Zhangjiajie to Chongqing. From what I see on booking app, the there's no direct high speed train to Chongqing, but there is a ordinary train (hard seat, hard sleeper and softsleeper) that is K-series train.

The app said the train departs from Zhangjiajie west railway station, but I read several webs that K-series trains depart from Zhangjiajie Railway station.

Which one is true?

Zhangjiajie has two main railway stations, each serving different types of trains and locations relative to the city and local attractions.

Zhangjiajie Railway Station:

  • This is the older and more centrally located station, closer to Tianmenshan Cable Car and the city center.
  • It mainly serves conventional (non-high-speed) trains, including K-series trains, T-series, and other slower services.
  • If you plan to travel to nearby attractions like Tianmenshan or the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, this station is more convenient for local transport connections.

Zhangjiajie West Railway Station:

  • Also known as Zhangjiajie West High-Speed Railway Station, it primarily serves high-speed trains (G- and D-series) on the newer lines.
  • This station is further from the city center and attractions, so you may need a taxi or shuttle to reach hotels or tourist sites.
  • High-speed trains connect Zhangjiajie West with major cities like Changsha, Wuhan, and beyond.

Train to Chongqing:

  • Currently, there is no direct high-speed train from Zhangjiajie to Chongqing. The available options are conventional K-series trains, which offer hard seats, hard sleepers, and soft sleepers.
  • These K-series trains depart from Zhangjiajie Railway Station (the older station), not the West High-Speed station. This can sometimes cause confusion on booking platforms if they list multiple stations.
  • Travel time on the K-series train to Chongqing is long (usually around 10–12 hours) and schedules vary; tickets can be booked in advance online or at the station.

In summary:

  • Use Zhangjiajie Railway Station for conventional trains, including K-series trains to Chongqing.
  • Use Zhangjiajie West Railway Station for high-speed trains to other cities like Changsha or Wuhan.
  • For visiting Tianmenshan Cable Car or central Zhangjiajie attractions, the main Zhangjiajie Railway Station is more convenient.

Always double-check your ticket details, as some booking apps may incorrectly label the departure station. Locally, station names are clearly marked, and staff can assist with directions and transfer options.
