We are in our mid -70s and looking to stay in the Waikiki area at the end of January for about 5 nights. We’ve been to Oahu a few times before so don’t need to sightsee We just want to enjoy relaxing by the pool, enjoy the weather, the views and some good restaurants nearby. My problem is that it seems like most hotels that aren’t “resorts” don’t have any shade by their pool. The resorts are lush but my experience is that they are packed with families who get out early to claim most of the lounges. Are there any hotels that won’t break the bank that have a quiet atmosphere around a nice pool and are walkable to restaurants. I don’t want too much (-; !
It's great to hear you're planning a relaxing trip to Waikiki! I understand your desire for a quieter, more peaceful atmosphere with a nice pool and easy access to restaurants without the hustle and bustle of large family-oriented resorts. Based on your preferences, here are a few hotels in the Waikiki area that may offer the tranquility you're looking for:
1. The Modern Honolulu This is a chic, boutique-style hotel that tends to attract a more relaxed crowd. The pool area is serene and not overcrowded, with ample shaded areas and cabanas to keep cool. It also has a quieter vibe compared to the bigger resorts, making it an excellent choice for adults looking for a peaceful retreat. The hotel is within walking distance to many restaurants in Waikiki, so you'll have plenty of dining options without needing to drive. There are also some great views of the ocean and city skyline from the hotel.
2. Lotus Hotel A small and quieter hotel that offers a more low-key experience than most of the larger resorts. It features a pool with shaded lounge chairs and is within walking distance of the beach and excellent dining options. The Lotus Hotel is known for its welcoming staff and peaceful atmosphere, which may suit your needs perfectly for a more relaxed stay.
3. Waikiki Parc Hotel This hotel is slightly more upscale than the others, but it still maintains a calm and quiet ambiance compared to large resorts. It has a lovely pool area with both sun and shade options and is a short walk to the beach and many restaurants. While not too far from the action, it maintains a peaceful and adult-friendly vibe. Its location is ideal for those who want easy access to the lively parts of Waikiki but also want to retreat to a quieter environment.
4. Hotel Renew Hotel Renew is a boutique hotel with a calm, minimalist atmosphere. The pool is smaller, but it offers a more intimate, relaxing environment with plenty of shaded areas. The hotel is located just a short walk from the beach and a variety of excellent restaurants. It’s perfect for guests who want to stay close to everything but enjoy a peaceful retreat. The vibe here is more relaxed, and it’s a great place to recharge after a day exploring or lounging by the pool.
5. Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort While this resort is larger, it does offer some quieter, more secluded areas, especially around its pool and outdoor lounging areas. It’s a great option if you’re looking for a more traditional resort experience but want to avoid the crowds of larger family resorts. The pool is spacious with plenty of shade and relaxing spots, and it’s within walking distance of many excellent restaurants and shops.
For a relaxing and low-key stay, I’d recommend considering The Modern Honolulu, Hotel Renew, or Waikiki Parc Hotel for a quieter atmosphere. All of these options are within walking distance to restaurants, so you won’t need to travel far to enjoy the local dining scene. I hope this helps, and I’m sure you'll have a lovely time in Waikiki!
