Am planning a trip to Florida with 11 year old and partner. Have to work around school holidays so can either go Easter (Late April) or beginning of August. Which would be best ? And why ?
Choosing between late April (around Easter) and early August for a Walt Disney World trip depends on your priorities regarding crowds, weather, and overall experience. Both times have pros and cons, especially with an 11-year-old and an adult partner.
Late April (Easter period):
This time can be quite busy because of school holidays and the Easter break. Spring crowds are noticeable, especially at Magic Kingdom and EPCOT. Lines can be long, and hotel prices may be higher. The weather is generally warm but not extremely hot, and humidity is moderate. Rain is possible but usually shorter afternoon showers.
Early August:
August falls in peak summer, which is hot, humid, and often rainy. Expect afternoon thunderstorms almost daily, but they tend to pass quickly. Crowds are high, but slightly lower than Easter in some cases. Water parks and resort pools are great for cooling off. This time is good if your priority is avoiding the spring holiday rush and you don’t mind heat. Early August also allows more flexibility with park reservations.
Recommendation:
If you and your child tolerate heat well and enjoy water-based activities, August is manageable and avoids the spring holiday crush, though it will be hot. If you prefer milder weather and don’t mind heavier crowds during Easter, late April can be more pleasant for walking around the parks. Advance planning, using Genie+ or Lightning Lane, and starting early in the day will help mitigate crowd impact in either period.
