Marriott Grande Vista or Harbor Lakes

Taking my 10 year old to a non-Disney trip the end of September. We plan on doing Discovery Cove, Seaworld and Aquata. The other days I would like to relax by the pool. Are there any kid activities when kids are in school?

DH would like at least a bar and restaurant on site.

Are there any others that fit the bill? We stayed at Vistana (not the one with the fountains) about 15 years ago but would like to try something different.

Marriott Lakeshore Reserve is not available the time we want to go.

Both Marriott Grande Vista and Marriott’s Harbour Lake are excellent options for a non-Disney Orlando trip, offering family-friendly amenities as well as onsite dining and bars for adults. Since your 10-year-old will still be in school at this time, most daytime kid-focused activities at these resorts are less crowded, but you can still find fun ways to engage them.

Marriott Grande Vista: This resort is expansive and offers multiple pools, a lazy river, and miniature golf. There are scheduled kid activities through the resort’s program, even during school weeks, but availability may be limited in late September. For adults, there is a full-service bar and several onsite restaurants.

  • Large pool complex with water slides and a lazy river
  • Mini-golf and sports courts
  • Onsite restaurants and bar
  • Family-friendly suites and villas

Marriott’s Harbour Lake: This is a smaller, more intimate resort focused on family fun, especially for children. It has pirate-themed pools, splash areas, and a kid-friendly activity program. While weekday activities may be less frequent, the pools and splash zones will keep your child entertained. There is also a bar and casual dining options available for adults.

  • Pirate-themed pools and water play areas
  • Scheduled kid activities (check for availability during school term)
  • Onsite dining and bar for adults
  • Villas and suites with kitchenettes for convenience

Other options you might consider that fit your criteria:

  • Marriott’s Cypress Harbour: Multiple pools, family activities, and onsite restaurants and bar. Great for relaxing by the pool on non-park days.
  • Marriott’s Sabal Palms: Offers spacious villas, pool and sports areas, and nearby dining options, suitable for families with children.
  • Marriott’s Lakeshore Reserve: Not available for your dates, but normally has excellent amenities for kids and adults alike.

Overall, for a late September trip when kids are in school, Harbour Lake might feel more engaging for a 10-year-old with its themed pools and splash areas, while Grande Vista offers a more extensive property with multiple activities and dining choices. Both provide bars and restaurants to satisfy adults during downtime.
