Quick question: Cameron for both Grand Canyon and Antelope
Hi, the two of us presently have 2 nts in Bright Angel Lodge booked in June.
We'd like to visit both Grand Canyon and Antelope Canyon. We only have 2 nts devoted to GC & Antelope (cannot extend to longer) as want to drive to Moab afterwards.
We prefer not to move accommodation for the 2nts and happy to drive within 1.5 hrs to each from our hotel.
What do you think of staying in Cameron which on Google Maps looks like an hr to both GCNP and Antelope? Or another town?
Or should we really stay 1 nt in Bright Angel Lodge and 1 nt in Page?
Thanks very much!
Given your constraints of only 2 nights and the desire to visit both the Grand Canyon and Antelope Canyon without changing accommodations, it’s important to balance driving times and sightseeing priorities.
Option 1: Stay in Cameron
- Cameron is roughly 1 hour from the Grand Canyon’s South Rim and about 1.5 hours from Page/Antelope Canyon. This makes it a central base between the two sites.
- Pros: You can keep one accommodation for both days, simplifying logistics, luggage handling, and check-in/check-out stress.
- Cons: You’ll spend a significant amount of time driving both days, especially if you want to tour Antelope Canyon early in the morning to avoid crowds.
- Accommodation options in Cameron are limited, primarily hotels and motels, so the quality and availability may not be as appealing as Bright Angel Lodge or Page.
Option 2: Split nights – 1 night at Bright Angel Lodge, 1 night in Page
- Pros: Minimizes driving time on both days. You can fully enjoy the Grand Canyon on the first day without a long drive after, and then start early for Antelope Canyon the next day from Page.
- Pros: Staying at Bright Angel Lodge offers the iconic Grand Canyon experience with easy rim access and sunset/sunrise opportunities.
- Cons: You’ll need to pack and move accommodations after the first night, which adds a small logistical step, but it is manageable.
Recommendation:
- If maximizing sightseeing and minimizing drive time is your priority, splitting nights—1 at Bright Angel Lodge and 1 in Page—is preferable.
- If you strongly prefer not to move accommodations at all, Cameron works as a central base, but be prepared for longer driving and early starts to fully enjoy both locations.
- Given your June timing and likely crowds at Antelope Canyon, staying overnight in Page allows you to book an early morning tour and beat some of the crowd, which can significantly improve the experience.
Overall, while Cameron is a possible compromise, splitting nights is usually the better choice for both enjoyment and efficiency.
