Pickleball

Hi, I believe I recall an outdoor pickleball court in or near Marathon. I also know there are some on Key Colony Point.

Does anyone know of a site where one can sign up to play, see if there are others playing, etc? We have that here at home.

Thanks!

Yes, Marathon and the surrounding Keys have a few options for outdoor pickleball enthusiasts, including courts at Key Colony Beach and other local community centers. While the pickleball scene is smaller than in larger metropolitan areas, it’s active and welcoming.

Where to play in Marathon:

  • Key Colony Beach Tennis & Pickleball Courts: Located on Key Colony Beach, these courts are open to residents and guests of local accommodations. They typically host casual play as well as organized games.
  • Marathon Community Park: Some outdoor courts here are designated for pickleball during certain hours. Check with the park office for scheduling and availability.
  • Sombrero Beach & nearby recreation areas: A few local parks have adapted tennis courts that can be used for pickleball with portable nets, often on a first-come, first-served basis.

Finding other players and signing up:

  • Meetup.com: Search for “Marathon Pickleball” or “Florida Keys Pickleball” to find informal groups and scheduled games.
  • Facebook groups: Local community groups such as “Florida Keys Pickleball Players” often post times and locations for games and clinics.
  • Local resorts and rental communities: Some offer organized pickleball sessions for guests or residents. Calling ahead can confirm availability and open sessions.
  • USA Pickleball Club Finder: The official site allows you to locate sanctioned clubs and courts in Marathon and the surrounding Keys.

It’s a good idea to bring your own paddle and balls, check for court availability in advance, and consider arriving a bit early if the group play is popular. Even casual drop-in sessions can be a fun way to meet locals and enjoy the Keys while staying active.
