March 10-14

Is Key West busy with spring breakers during this time of the year? We are a family of 4 (2 kids (8 and 10yr) and would like to know if this is a good spot during these dates.

Key West in early to mid-March is typically starting to see the peak of spring break crowds, but it is usually more popular with college students from mid-March through April. During March 10–14, the island will have a mix of tourists, including families, cruise ship visitors, and some spring breakers. It’s not usually as rowdy as the later weeks in March, but certain areas—especially bars and Duval Street—can be busier and livelier than the family-oriented parts of the island.

For a family of four with kids aged 8 and 10, Key West can still be a great spot during these dates, particularly if you plan your activities away from the main party areas:

  • Stay near quieter areas such as Old Town Key West, Truman Annex, or closer to the beaches, which are more family-friendly.
  • Focus on daytime activities like the Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservatory, the Mel Fisher Maritime Museum, Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park, and snorkeling tours, which are all family-appropriate and less crowded by spring breakers.
  • Consider taking early morning excursions to avoid midday crowds, especially at popular tourist spots and beaches.

While there may be some increase in noise and activity around bars and nightspots, the overall atmosphere is still manageable for families. Key West offers a mix of relaxation, historical sites, and outdoor adventures suitable for kids. Booking accommodations early is recommended, as March is a popular time for tourists in general.

  • Tip: Avoid late evenings on Duval Street if you want a quieter family experience.
  • Tip: Consider renting bikes or using trolleys to get around efficiently without walking through busier streets.
  • Tip: Plan some beach or water activities early in the day to enjoy less crowded areas.

In summary, Key West is doable for a family during March 10–14, with a little planning to avoid the more crowded or party-centric areas. You should be able to enjoy a pleasant, family-friendly visit with kids.
