Disney world AFTER Easter ???

Hi all - my husband and I will be in Orlando for 2 weeks April 19-May 3. We have tickets to Disney and Universal. I had originally bought the Disney with a start date of Sunday April 20 - we have 5 day tickets. And we had planned to do Universal the next week.

So I then realized that April 20 is Easter Sunday and it may still be super busy so I changed the dates to do Disney between April 25 to May 2nd.

We are going to do universal between April 20-24. We got the buy 2 get 2 days for Universal so possibly won’t even use all 4 days… maybe 2 or 3 is enough?

What do you all think? Which park will be busier during that first week? Or maybe the crowds will have dispersed somewhat since it’s after Easter?

I mean we will embrace no matter what .. but I’d like to know what we are facing lol!!!

Thanks - Jacqui :)

Hi Jacqui, visiting Orlando in the window you mentioned (April 19–May 3) is generally considered a favorable time to hit the parks in terms of crowds. Easter Sunday itself (April 20) is indeed very busy, as many families plan trips around the holiday, so changing your Disney dates to April 25–May 2 is smart. By then, the peak Easter crowds will have mostly dispersed, and the parks tend to be moderately busy, not overwhelming.

Here’s a breakdown of what you can expect:

  • Universal Orlando (April 20–24): Right after Easter, you might still encounter some elevated crowds, especially on weekends, but weekdays (Monday–Thursday) should be lighter than Easter weekend. Using 2–3 of your 4 days is reasonable if you’re mainly targeting the main attractions. Islands of Adventure usually sees slightly lower wait times compared to Universal Studios during this period.
  • Disney World (April 25–May 2): After Easter, the parks settle into a more moderate crowd level. Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios will be busier than Animal Kingdom or Epcot, but wait times are typically manageable. Since you have 5-day tickets, spreading out the parks and hitting them midweek can maximize your experience.

Additional tips to manage crowds and enjoy your visit:

  • Consider rope-dropping the most popular rides (like Rise of the Resistance, Avatar Flight of Passage, and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train) to avoid long waits.
  • Use Genie+ or Lightning Lane options strategically if you plan to do multiple headliner attractions in one day.
  • Weekdays generally have lower crowd levels than weekends, so plan your Universal and Disney days accordingly.
  • Early morning or late afternoon visits are best for avoiding the peak midday crowds, especially in Epcot and Hollywood Studios.

Overall, shifting Disney to after Easter will make your experience far more comfortable, and doing 2–3 days at Universal should be plenty unless you want to leisurely explore every ride. Embrace the fun—you’ll likely find lines manageable and a good balance of crowd levels throughout your stay!
