Macau day visit, best route from YMCA Hotel toTurbojet/Cotai

Staying at The Salisbury. Planning a 1 weekday trip to Macau. Ferry to Outer Harbor wander Peninsula historic areas, head to Taipa/Cotai area. Return. Questions: either Turbojet or Cotai Waterjet to Macau Outer Harbor. From what I can see, 1) both options from the same HK Ferry Terminal in Sheung Wan? 2)best transportation option to get from hotel to terminal? 3)land at Macau Outer Harbor...4)return from Taipa to HK Ferry Terminal is this ONLY Cotai ferry? Also seeing no need to pre-purchase tkts on a weekday, correct? 5)or does it behoove us to get round trip in/out of Outer Harbor (if so, best transport back to Macau OH Terminal? Seems simple enough but my "fear if the unknown" leads me to this query. Thanks!

Planning a day trip to Macau from Hong Kong, staying at The Salisbury (Tsim Sha Tsui), can be straightforward if you understand the ferry and transportation options. Here is a detailed guide addressing your questions:

1. Ferry options from Hong Kong to Macau:

  • TurboJET operates mainly from the Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal in Sheung Wan to both Macau Outer Harbor (Peninsula) and Taipa/Cotai. This is the most common service.
  • Cotai Water Jet operates from the same terminal in Sheung Wan but primarily services the Taipa/Cotai area. It does not go to Macau Outer Harbor.

2. Getting from The Salisbury to the ferry terminal:

  • The most convenient option is to take the MTR from Tsim Sha Tsui Station to Sheung Wan Station (Island Line), then walk a few minutes to the Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal.
  • Alternatively, you can take a taxi from the hotel directly to the terminal. Expect travel time around 20–30 minutes depending on traffic.

3. Arriving in Macau Outer Harbor:

  • Once you land at Outer Harbor, you can explore the historic Peninsula areas, including Senado Square, Ruins of St. Paul, and A-Ma Temple.
  • Transport around the Peninsula is mainly walking or local buses. Taxis are available but slightly more expensive.

4. Traveling to Taipa/Cotai from Outer Harbor:

  • From the Outer Harbor, you can take the free shuttle buses provided by Cotai casinos/hotels or take a local taxi to reach Taipa or the Cotai area.
  • If you plan to return to Hong Kong from Taipa/Cotai, only the Cotai Water Jet services the return trip directly to the Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal. TurboJET does not operate from Taipa/Cotai.

5. Ticket purchase tips:

  • On weekdays, ferry tickets are usually available on the spot without pre-purchase. However, if you prefer a guaranteed schedule or are traveling during a holiday, online booking is recommended.
  • For flexibility, you could purchase round-trip tickets from Outer Harbor to Hong Kong if you plan to spend the morning on the Peninsula and the afternoon in Taipa/Cotai. Otherwise, you can return to Outer Harbor first and then take TurboJET back to Hong Kong.

6. Optional transport tips:

  • Walking between nearby attractions in the Peninsula is convenient.
  • Taxis are plentiful and reliable in Macau but ensure you have some Macau Pataca or WeChat/Alipay ready for payments.
  • Plan your return ferry timing in advance to avoid last-minute rush, especially if you intend to catch an evening ferry back to Hong Kong.

Overall, a typical itinerary would be: take TurboJET from Sheung Wan to Outer Harbor in the morning, explore the Macau Peninsula, transfer to Taipa/Cotai by shuttle or taxi, and return via Cotai Water Jet to Hong Kong later in the day. Pre-purchasing tickets is optional for weekday travel.
