Family hotel on or across form the beach

We are thinking about spending a couple of night in Miami before driving to Key West. Traveling with my husband, parents, and 2 boys (10 & 13). Since KW isn't know for the beaches I'd like to spend most of our time at the beach while doing a little sightseeing in Miami. My oldest is obsessed with flashy cars so hoping where we walk around he would spot some. I also think he'd like Little Havana. Any recommendations on where to stay for beach access, car spotting, safety, walkable restaurants. Obviously we aren't interested night clubs.

For a family-focused stay in Miami Beach with beach access, walkable dining, and opportunities for car spotting, the best areas are generally around South Beach (but slightly north of the busiest nightlife strips) or Mid-Beach for a quieter experience. You’ll have easy access to the beach, safe walking areas, and plenty of restaurants that cater to families.

Recommended neighborhoods and hotel areas:

  • South Beach (North of 5th Street to around 17th Street): Close to the beach, lots of restaurants, cafes, and safe walking areas. You can easily stroll along Ocean Drive and Collins Avenue, where flashy cars are often seen. Family-friendly hotels in this zone include those with pools and direct beach access.
  • Mid-Beach (around 23rd–41st Streets): A bit quieter than South Beach but still beach-accessible and with several hotels offering family suites. Ideal for avoiding the nightlife crowds while still being near restaurants and attractions.

Hotel suggestions suitable for families:

  • Hotels directly on the beach with family-friendly amenities like pools and larger rooms.
  • Look for properties with easy access to both the beach and walking paths to nearby restaurants.
  • Consider concierge services or local guides who can point you to safe car-spotting locations and kid-friendly activities.

Other tips for your Miami stay:

  • Car spotting: Collins Avenue, around 5th–17th Streets, often has luxury and exotic cars parked or cruising slowly.
  • Little Havana: A short drive from South Beach; Calle Ocho has vibrant street life, cafes, and shops. You can do a casual walk or grab Cuban food.
  • Beach time: Most hotels in South Beach and Mid-Beach provide private beach access. Public beach areas are also family-friendly but may be busier on weekends.
  • Safety: Stick to well-lit, populated areas around your hotel and the main tourist streets. Avoid late-night wandering, especially in non-hotel areas.
  • Walkable restaurants: Lincoln Road Mall is a pedestrian-friendly area with a wide selection of dining options suitable for families.

Overall, South Beach (north side) or Mid-Beach is ideal for balancing family-friendly beach time, sightseeing for your luxury car enthusiast, and easy access to walkable dining and safe areas. You’ll get the Miami experience without the overwhelming nightlife crowds.
