Early/Late checkin Harrah’s

I’m going out to Las Vegas in a few weeks for a convention. My plane arrives very early in the morning and I really don’t want to be homeless until whatever bizarre chicken time the hotel has. I have no status. I don’t gamble so I’m not going to be given some beneficial early check in

What I was thinking about doing is booking the room for Sunday night, calling the hotel and telling them I will not be there until about 9 AM Monday and checking in then. Anyone done this? Did it work? Got any suggestions?

It’s understandable that you want to avoid waiting around for your room, especially after a long flight. At many Las Vegas hotels, including Harrah’s, check-in time is generally in the afternoon (around 3 PM), but arriving early can sometimes present a challenge, especially without a loyalty status or a history of gambling there. However, there are a few strategies that could help you manage your situation.

Booking the room for Sunday night and asking to check in early on Monday morning may work, but it depends on the hotel's availability and policies. Many hotels allow you to book the room for an extra night to guarantee early check-in, but this is not always the most economical choice. Here are a few things you can try:

  • Contact the hotel directly: Call Harrah's ahead of time and explain your early arrival. Some hotels are flexible if they’re not fully booked the night before, and they may allow you to check in earlier without charging you for an extra night.
  • Book the room for the night before: As you mentioned, booking the room for Sunday night, even if you won’t arrive until Monday morning, guarantees that your room will be ready when you arrive. Be sure to confirm with the hotel that they are aware of your intended check-in time.
  • Request early check-in: Call the front desk or use your reservation system to ask if early check-in is available. While this is often prioritized for high-status guests, some hotels may accommodate early check-ins depending on room availability. You might also ask if they can store your luggage if the room isn't ready right away.

In addition, here are a couple more options you might consider:

  • Use day-use booking platforms: Some hotels partner with day-use booking platforms that allow you to book a room for just a few hours during the day (usually from 9 AM to 4 PM), which could be a convenient option for you.
  • Wait in the hotel lobby: If the room isn't ready, many hotels have comfortable lobbies where you can wait. Some hotels might even offer early access to the pool, fitness center, or lounge area if that helps pass the time.

While it’s not guaranteed, these strategies can improve your chances of checking in early or at least having a place to wait until your room is ready. Good luck with your convention trip!
